A Library Card is required to access the library’s subscribed legal databases. All databases are accessible onsite from the Law Library’s Legal Research Computers and some can also be used from home. You may register for a Library Card/Computer User Card in-person at the Law Library.

LexisNexis Digital Library

Lexis Digital Library provides free anytime/anywhere access to our collection of LexisNexis eBooks, including a wide range of California titles. Patrons with a Law Library card can check out up to 5 eBook volumes at a time for up to 7 days to read in your computer’s web browser or on your mobile device through the LexisNexis Digital Library app (both iOS and Android apps are available). Trellis lets you search and gain access to extensive California state trial court documents and data (including Alameda County). Access rulings, dockets, documents, verdicts, judge bios, and motion & issue explanations. Please note that document coverage is selective, particularly for “Purchase Counties.”

-Use Trellis as a brief bank, to search and retrieve various types of court filings such as complaints and motions to use as templates and examples.

-Use Trellis for analytics, to discover how judges, parties, and opposing counsel have handled similar cases.

Bloomberg Law is a comprehensive, analytics-driven legal research platform integrating legal content (cases with headnotes, statutes, regulations, and the BCite citator service); litigation resources (dockets/complaints, attorney/judge analytics, ALM verdicts and expert profiles); transactional law resources (form templates, checklists and drafting guides); legal and business news; and a large library of secondary sources published by the American Bar Association (ABA), Wiley, James Publishing & BNA, including the Tax Management Portfolios and the ABA/Bloomberg Law Lawyers’ Manual on Professional Conduct.

Practice centers include litigation, health, privacy, bankruptcy, labor & employment, corporate, securities, IP, tax, and legal ethics.

Library cardholders can access Bloomberg Law from a designated Bloomberg Law terminal using their Library Card number. 

Please note that some content/features are disabled on the Bloomberg Law Patron Access platform in our library:  

  • Downloading documents (you can generally print to paper or to PDF or email documents)
  • Requesting documents that are not already available (such as certain currently unavailable documents in Dockets)
  • Printing/emailing entire Tax Management Portfolios
  • Business Intelligence Center
  • Alerts and workflow tools

Bloomberg Law Patron Access does support full search and browse capabilities, print to PDF (can save to USB), printing to the library printer (.25/page) and emailing select documents.

The Digital Library also provides access to HUD Housing Programs: Tenants’ Rights (The Green Book).

This database provides access to petitions and briefs filed with the California Supreme Court and the California Courts of Appeal. Includes selective briefs and petitions dated from 1990 for the California Supreme Court, and briefs and petitions dated from 1996 for the California Courts of Appeal. Briefs and petitions can be searched by docket number or case name. Print briefs for .25/page or request through document delivery (See Document Delivery).
