Mediated Searching – 20 Minute/$20.00 Minimum Charge
With specific directions from the requestor, law librarians can perform mediated searches in library databases using patron-supplied keywords and email the results.
For mediated search requests, the customer must provide the keywords/phrases the librarian will use when searching the library’s print and electronic materials (e.g. “trust amendments”) and the names(s) and/or type(s) of source(s) you want us to search (e.g. case law, statutes California practice guides, verdicts, form templates, law review articles, etc.)
Mediated search requests must be made by email to firstname.lastname@example.org. The requestor should indicate the budget available for the project. Library staff will determine whether or not we can complete the request, and will estimate the length of time needed to complete the request.
Costs: $20.00/20 minute increment, plus $10.00/document emailed. A list of search results downloaded from a database is considered one document. There is a 20 minute/$20.00 minimum charge for the mediated search service, plus a $10.00/document charge.
Turnaround time will depend on the scope of the project. Additional fees may be added for requests that must be completed within 24 hours.
Deliverable: Librarians can provide search results and requested documents in PDF or Word format, and will identify all sources searched using the patron’s provided keywords.
