Thomson Reuters/Westlaw is allowing any Alameda County Law Library patron to register for their own free temporary ID to Westlaw Classic!

All Westlaw content is included – primary law, secondary sources, KeyCite Reports, trial court documents, briefs, verdicts & settlements, and Practical Law.

Step-by-step instructions for registering for a temporary ID and the registration link can be found on this Instruction Sheet. Review the instructions carefully. When registering, you must select Government- State or Local for “Organization Type.” Please note, if you have previously registered for a Westlaw trial ID or had a Westlaw account, you will need to use a different email address for this trial.

After you register for your temporary ID, you will receive two emails from Thomson Reuters- one confirming your Westlaw Trial and another the creation of your Westlaw OnePass Profile.

You can login to Westlaw with OnePass using your Username and Password at http://next.westlaw.com

Call Westlaw at 1-800-934-9378 if you have any questions/problems registering for your temporary ID.

Please note that Westlaw will deactivate your trial ID for “excessive use” if it is used for 5+ hours in a single session. Make sure to “Sign Off” of Westlaw before closing your browser window.

Fastcase integrates citation analysis into search results, telling you how often each case in your results list has been cited. It’s like Shepardizing or KeyCiting each case in search results, except that you can see the results automatically integrated into search results. Now you can sort the most seminal case to the top of the list, with one click. From within a case, click the flag icon the upper-right hand corner to run the “Authority Check” function, which will list all citing cases and identify those that offer negative treatment.

Gale Legal Forms – California Forms Library offers a wide selection of essential state-specific (and multi-state) legal forms that may be customized for the most common legal procedures. The database includes thousands of transactional and litigation forms on a variety of legal topics- real estate forms, business forms, contracts, wills & trusts, powers of attorney, pre-marital agreements, bankruptcy, divorce, landlord tenant and many others.

The California Forms Library can be searched by keyword/form name or browsed by practice area (e.g. Promissory Notes). Forms can be downloaded as Word documents and saved to your computer.

This database provides access to petitions and briefs filed with the California Supreme Court and the California Courts of Appeal. Includes selective briefs and petitions dated from 1990 for the California Supreme Court, and briefs and petitions dated from 1996 for the California Courts of Appeal. Briefs and petitions can be searched by docket number or case name. Print briefs for .20/page or request through document delivery (See Document Delivery).
